And remember since December you can now recycle more in your recycling bin. If you find that your blue-lidded bin is full you may put out additional recycling in a box next to your bin.
Also with all the extra food and Christmas leftovers remember this can also be put in your green bin for composting as an alternative to putting it in your grey bin, allowing you a weekly collection of kitchen waste. This can be wrapped in newspaper but not in a plastic bag.

Christmas tree recycling
Christmas Trees can be put in your green bin for collection. They should be cut up if necessary so that they fit in the bin with the lid closed. They can also be taken to the Warwickshire County Council Household Waste Recycling Centres in the District at Burton Farm, Wellesbourne, Shipston-on-Stour and Stockton. You can also use the County Council’s woodchipping service to shred them.

Christmas Cards can be recycled in your blue-lidded wheelie bin or taken to most supermarkets or recycling centres. The Woodland Trust is holding a Christmas Card recycling scheme at WHSmith and Marks and Spencers for more information visit http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/en/take-part/recycle/cards/pages/christmas.aspx
Prepare for Christmas:
Switch to LED Christmas lights. Using these rather than traditional Christmas lights will cost you six times less to run.
• Choose gifts with minimal packaging to reduce waste.
• Save and reuse wrapping where possible. Sealing presents with string or ribbon makes it easier to reuse or use recycled paper, children’s drawings, paintings or even glossy magazine paper.
• Use Christmas cards made from recycled paper or send e-cards
• Use old Christmas card as present labels
• Take reusable bags with you when shopping – some supermarkets reward you for reusing bags.
• Use a shopping list to ensure you only purchase what you will need for the festive season.
• Visit the Love Food Hate website at www.lovefoodhastewaste.com for help with portion sizing for Christmas Dinner and tasty tips for using leftovers.

Waste collection times have change see below.

Blue Lidded Bin. This is to store all recyclable material: paper, glass and cans plus cardboard and plastic bottles. This replaces the boxes currently used and will be collected every other week.

Green Bin - this remains the same, but note that as of Monday 4 August 2008 there will be a maximum amount of green waste that will be collected from each home. This limit will be 2 bins per household per collection.
If you currently put out more than this for collection it will not be collected after August 2008. Also the green bin collection service will be suspended for the months of November through and starts aiApril following year.

It is hoped that more households will use the subsidised home composting scheme, available from Warwickshire County Council. This will help to reduce the environmental impact caused by collecting material that can be composted at home. Details of the home composting scheme can be found at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/web/corporate/pages.nsf/(DisplayLinks)/EA6CA3867079394380257228003FF794 or call 0845 077 0757, charged at a local rate.

Grey Bin - for general waste. This should be used for anything that can't be recycled in the other bins. This rubbish will be sent to landfill and will be collected every week.
The Council is only asking residents to accommodate one new bin and is replacing your black boxes with another bin. It is expected that all properties, with a limited number of exceptions will use wheeled bins. However, the Council knows that there are a number of properties where wheeled bins cannot be used, i.e. where their front door opens directly onto the pavement or the property has no drive and is accessed by steps off the public highway. These properties will stay on sacks and boxes. If you are elderly, infirm or disabled and receive help in collecting your waste and recycling, the Council will look into this and will be writing to residents prior to the launch of the new service to confirm. The bins will have to be left at the property boundary with their lids down. No additional bags or boxes placed by or on the bins will be taken.Full details of the new service can be found at http://www.stratford.gov.uk/community/community-1428.cfm?source=pt
